About Alavert
Alavert is classified as an antihistamine. The medication was originally approved as a prescription drug by the Food and Drug Administration in 1992, and for OTC use in 2002. It is available in both 12 hour and 24-hour relief formulas, and in varieties that include Quick Dissolving Tablets, Allergy & Sinus, or Alavert for Kids 6+.[1] Alavert does not cause the drowsiness that is common in other antihistamines such as Benadryl.[2] [5]
According to the manufacturer, the regular price of Alavert is lower than the cost of competitor Claritin, and can be up to three times lower than the copay of prescription allergy medications.[6]
