About Aleve
Mild to moderate pain and inflammation caused by various conditions, including headaches, menstrual cramps, backaches, muscle aches, dental pain, and tendonitis can be managed by using Aleve. It is also recommended for reducing the pain, swelling and joint stiffness that are caused by arthritis, bursitis and attacks of gout.[7] Aleve-D is a formulation that includes pseudoephedrine and is used to provide relief for sinus pressure, sinus headaches, sinus congestion, and nasal congestion.
The most common side effects from Aleve are abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, fluid retention, shortness of breath, rash, ringing in the ears, headaches, dizziness, and drowsiness.[8]
The effectiveness of blood pressure medications can be reduced by taking Aleve. Individuals taking oral blood thinners or anticoagulants such as Coumadin should avoid Aleve because both products thin the blood. Excessive blood thinning may lead to bleeding.[9]
The FDA has not conducted sufficient studies on the effects of Aleve on pregnant women or unborn children. Therefore, Aleve is not recommended during pregnancy. A small amount of naproxen is excreted in breast milk, but has not been determined to be harmful to an infant.[10]
