Chantix Side Effects
From Pharmacy Drug Guide
Chantix is a prescription medication used to help people quit smoking cigarettes. It works by blocking the effects of nicotine on the brain, making smoking less enjoyable. Side effects of Chantix include upset stomach, constipation, insomnia, nightmares, heartburn, and fluctuations in appetite. More serious side effects are also possible.[1]
Smoking cessation aid Chantix may cause increased risk of heart attack among users, according to a Canadian study published on July 4, 2011. The research suggests that those who take Chantix have a greater chance of heartbeat irregularities as well as heart attack. Chantix can also have serious psychological effects, such as mood swings, depression, and even thoughts of suicide.[2]

Chantix Side Effects
Most of the adverse reactions associated with Chantix are not life threatening, and not all users will experience any side effects when taking this drug. Commonly, Chantix can cause upset stomach (nearly a third of users will experience this), gas, constipation, altered taste, and sleeping issues. Other relatively minor side effects are also possible.[3]
More serious side effects of Chantix include higher risk of heartbeat irregularities and heart attack, as well as altered behavior, anger, depression and suicidal thoughts. In addition, there is a risk of losing consciousness or blacking out on Chantix, which is why bus drivers, truck drivers, pilots and air traffic controllers are typically barred from taking the drug.[2]
