Clomid Side Effects
From Pharmacy Drug Guide
Clomid (Clomiphene citrate) is prescribed to women who want to get pregnant but are experiencing ovulatory dysfunction. Clomid induces ovulation by stimulating the hormones to release a mature egg from the ovary. Patients suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome and certain types of amenorrhea, such as amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome and post-oral-contraceptive amenorrhea, have achieved successful pregnancies using Clomid. Clomid side effects may include visual disturbances in addition to the expected hormonal side effects such as spotting and breast tenderness.[1]

Clomid Side Effects
Clomid has been known to cause visual symptoms. Some patients experience blurring and report seeing spots or flashes (scotomata). These symptoms usually disappear within a few days of discontinuing Clomid. Patients should be advised that these visual side effects are exacerbated by variable light. These visual disturbances can make it dangerous to drive or operate machinery. Other side effects include headache, hot flashes, breast tenderness, and abnormal uterine bleeding.[2] [3]
Serious side effects include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is an enlargement of the ovaries. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome can be fatal. Abdominal or pelvic pain, nausea or vomiting, swelling of the hands and legs, shortness of breath, or severe weight gain may indicate that a patient is experiencing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.[2]
