Cortaid is a brand of hydrocortisone topical ointment, cream, or spray that is available in 1% strength as an OTC product. Hydrocortisone is also sold as a prescription drug in greater strengths.[1]
Cortaid is used to relieve itching caused by allergic reactions, eczema, insect bites, poison ivy, hemorrhoids, and other causes.[2] Cortaid is applied to the affected area from one to four times a day, but the manufacturer advises not to use it more than that.[3]

About Cortaid
Cortaid is manufactured and distributed by pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. It is intended for use on most areas of body, but is not safe for application in the eyes, in the rectal area, or the genitals in the instance of vaginal discharge. It is also not for diaper rash.
There are several varieties of Cortaid on the market, including Maximum Strength Cream, 12-Hour Advanced Anti-Itch Cream and Intensive Therapy Cooling Spray.
Over-the-counter Cortaid is indicated to treat:[3]
- eczema
- dry, itchy skin, including winter rashes
- external anal and genital itching
- psoriasis
- seborrheic dermatitis

Cortaid Patient Assistance Programs and Coupons
- Cortaid's manufacturer sometimes has special coupon offers. These are posted on the Coupons page of the main website, accessible from the home page. Consumers who click on the available coupons will be redirected to Coupons.com, and will need to install the service's coupon printer in order to print.
- Patients who sign up for special offers on the Cortaid website will be notified when future coupons and promotions become available. There is also a newsletter signup option on the same page for tips on dealing with skin conditions.[4]
- Cortaid also offers occasional rebates on the full price of the product, up to $7.99. The most recent offer required a purchase before 12/31/11.[5] The Cortaid website will list new offers that might appear.[4]
- Consumers may get other savings by using a drug card that offers discounts such as the MedSaver Card, Your Rx Card, the RxFreeCard, or the State Drug Card.[6] These organizations work by purchasing large quantities of the drug at a lower cost and then passing the savings on to the consumer.[6] Most of the cards are available to anyone, regardless of age or health.[6]
