Cymbalta

Jump to: navigation, search

Cymbalta is a prescription drug used to treat depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD.[1] [2] Cymbalta also helps relieve pain in certain conditions, and it has shown success treating stress urinary incontinence.[1] While Cymbalta is generally considered an antidepressant and anti-anxiety aid, the FDA has also approved the drug for use in treating chronic pain of fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, lower back pain, and diabetic nerve pain.[3]

As with other antidepressants, there is an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior in patients taking Cymbalta, especially in children, adolescents and young adults. Cymbalta may not be the best choice of drug for bipolar patients and those with unstable heart conditions. Patients with liver or kidney disease, a history of seizures, or taking blood pressure medication may not be good candidates for Cymbalta therapy.[1]
