About Detrol LA

Detrol LA is the extended release formula of its sister drug Detrol.^[6] Detrol LA is supplied in tables of 2 and 4 mg capsules, while Detrol is supplied in tablets of 1 and 2 mg. Patients generally take one pill a day, at the same time each day, without regard to meals.^[4] Detrol LA, as is the case with all drugs, does have side effects. In this case the side effect most commonly experienced is dry mouth.^[7] Detrol LA has not been completely studied for use in pediatric patients. Because studies have suggested some fetal risk, Detrol LA carries a pregnancy category rating of C, meaning it should be used only if the benefits clearly outweigh the risks to the fetus.^[7] Since the medication may be passed to the infant in breast milk, lactating women are generally not advised to take Detrol LA.^[7]
