Detrol LA Allergic Reactions
The active ingredient in Detrol LA, tolterodine, may cause an allergic reaction in susceptible individuals. The drug also contains inactive ingredients, like sucrose, starch, hypromellose, ethylcellulose, medium chain triglycerides, oleic acid, gelatin and FD&C Blue #2, which might trigger an allergic reaction in some patients.[4]
Signs of a dangerous allergic reaction to Detrol LA can include rashy, itchy skin, swelling and dizziness. Symptoms such as these require immediate medical attention.[5]
Detrol LA Precautions and Warnings
- Medications for glaucoma, vitamins and drugs (both prescription and nonprescription) such as fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox) and clarithromycin (Biaxin) may interact with Detrol LA.[2]
- Detrol LA may not be safe for patients with histories of bladder outflow obstruction or other bladder conditions, illnesses of the gastrointestinal system, prostate enlargement, kidney or liver diseases or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.[1]
- Detrol LA can cause users to feel dizzy or less alert. Therefore, it is advised that those taking Detrol LA do not attempt to operate a motor vehicle or participate in other potentially dangerous activities requiring high levels of concentration until they are confident that such tasks can be safely performed while on the drug.[1]
