About Flomax
Flomax is the trade name for the generic drug tamsulosin and is in a class of medicines called alpha blockers.[1] Flomax (tamsulosin) is available by prescription only. This alpha blocker may be prescribed to men to treat the symptoms of BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as an enlarged prostate.[1] Tamsulosin may help control symptoms of BPH such as difficulty urinating, but will not cure the condition.[1] Other urinary difficulties that may occur with BPH are dribbling, weak urine stream, urgency and frequent need to urinate.[1] Alpha blockers work by relaxing bladder and prostate muscles, allowing urine to flow more freely.[1]
Common Flomax side effects include dizziness, diarrhea, back pain, cough, blurred vision, drowsiness, decreased sexual ability, lightheadedness, sinus inflammation, sleeping problems, runny or stuffy nose and general weakness.[1]

Understanding Prostate Enlargement
As many men age, their prostates get larger. While common, the condition can cause unpleasant effects such as frequent urination, weak urine flow, urinary tract infections and more. Enlarged prostates are more common in Caucasians and African American males, and are attributed to age as well as genetics. The condition may be treated with medications, but in some cases surgery may be required.[5]
