Fluzone High-Dose is an inactivated influenza vaccine administered to patients age 65 and older, and immunizes against influenza virus substype A and type B. The vaccine was approved by the FDA as a higher-dosage form in 2009, and is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur.[1] Fluzone High Dose was approved for the 2011/2012 flu season.

There is a higher likelihood of side effects with high-dose flu shots than the standard variety. However, Fluzone High-Dose is still considered safe. The CDC recommends that people get flu shots in most cases, despite the possibility of side effects, and recognizes shots as effective in flu prevention. Fluzine High-Dose is considered to be just about as safe as other flu shots. The CDC does not recommend any specific type of shot or dosage over another for seniors over 65.[2]
