Gold Bond was first introduced in the United States in the New England region in 1908. The formula for the original Gold Bond Medicated Powder, however, was developed in 1882 by a conference of physicians from The Rhode Island State Medical Association. For most of the 20th century, Gold Bond remained a regional product. It was not until 1990 that it became a national brand after it was purchased by Martin Himmel Inc. The company went on to expand the product beyond foot care before selling it to Chattem, Inc. in 1996.[1]
