Hydrocodone is an opiate analgesic, and fis classified as an antitussive. The prescription drug is combined with a variety of other ingredients to treat either severe pain or cough (depending on the other ingredients). Hydrocodone is not sold as a single ingredient, but is always part of a mixture of at at least two drugs. It is used in Vicodin along with acetaminophen, and is also present in Triaminic Expectorant DH and a large number of other medicines. Hydrocone works by changing the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain and coughing.

Commonly experienced side effects of hyrodcone include vomiting, trouble urinating, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and blurred vision. Hydrocone is not suitable for children under the age of 6 and should be used cautiously when given to children between ages 6 and 12.[1]
