About Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is an analgesic (pain-relief) medication that is also an NSAID, or anti-inflammation drug. The drug treats various forms of arthritis, menstrual pain, fevers, headaches, muscle aches, backaches and toothaches. Ibuprofen may be suggested for use on an "as needed" basis, or on a daily scheduled to manage chronic conditions. The drug can cause ulcers, increase the risk of stomach bleeding, cause liver damage over extended periods of use, and may increase the risk of stroke or heart attack.[1]

The FDA warns consumers of the use of ibuprofen among people on a regular aspirin regimen for their hearts. The agency reported taking ibuprofen for pain relief at the same time as aspirin can interfere with aspirin's cardiovascular benefits.[3]
