About Kapvay

Kapvay's active ingredient, Clonidine, is an alpha-agonist hypotensive agent that is also used to treat hypertension, or high blood pressure. It lowers heart rate and causes blood vessels to become more relaxed.^[4] In Kapvay, clonidine is approved to treat ADHD in children.

Children with ADHD have trouble staying focused on tasks, are inattentive, and unable to sit still for long periods. Kapvay may be used in conjunction with behavioral and other therapies, or it may be prescribed as a stand-alone treatment.^[1] Kapvay is taken twice a day and is provided in an extended-release form that must be swallowed whole and not cut, chewed or crushed. It can be taken with or without food. Kapvay should never be discontinued abruptly but should be tapered off over a week or so.^[1]

Kapvay Patient Assistance Programs and Coupons

Kapvay's manufacturer has an introductory instant-savings card program that saves $50 off the initial prescription and $25 for up to five more. The form can be downloaded and printed from the website.
