Keppra Side Effects
From Pharmacy Drug Guide
Keppra is a brand name for levetiracetam, an anti-convulsant used to treat seizures caused by epilepsy. Keppra helps control seizures by lowering levels of excitement in the brains of epileptics.[1] Side effects for Keppra include drowsiness, dizziness, loss of appetite, headache, runny nose, sore throat and nausea.[1] In some cases, Keppra and similar drugs can cause users to develop suicidal thoughts, or to attempt to take their own lives. Some reported incidents of this side effect have occurred in under a week of use.[2]

The inactive ingredients of Keppra, namely colloidal anhydrous silica, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol 6000, polyvinyl alcohol-partially hydrolyzed, titanium dioxide (E171), Macrogol/PEG3350 and talc, may also cause allergic reaction.[4] Patients with known drug allergies are advised to discuss them with a physician in order to help determine if a reaction to Keppra will occur.[2]
Keppra Precautions and Warnings
- Keppra may cause patients to experience feelings of dizziness or to become excessively tired. This can affect the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle or other potentially dangerous machinery.[5]

Women who conceive while using Keppra are encouraged to join the North American Antiepileptic Drug Pregnancy Registry and be monitored for any adverse effects on their infants.[5]
