Metadate is a prescription medication used to control the symptoms associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults and children. The medication may also be used in the treatment narcolepsy. Metadate, which is the brand name for methylphenidate, is manufactured by UCB, Inc. and is part of a class of drugs known as central nervous system stimulants (CNS). Methylphenidate is thought to work by altering norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain, and is administered as an extended-release capsule.[1]

Like most prescription drugs, Metadate may cause side effects in some patients. Common Metadate side effects may include headache, stomach pain, sleeplessness, anorexia, or loss of appetite. Weight loss is also a common Metadate side effect.[1]
