Motrin

Motrin is a brand of the generic medication ibuprofen. Motrin is an over-the-counter pain relief drug classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent, or NSAID. Motrin helps to relieve mild pain from headaches, menstrual cramps, muscle aches and more, and also reduces fever.[1] Some varieties of Motrin also contain other active ingredients.
Ibuprofen is also sold under various other brand names such as Advil, Midol and Nuprin, in addition to numerous generic and store brands. Prescription ibuprofen is also available, usually in in much higher doses than Motrin, and is often combined with more powerful painkillers or sedatives.[1]

Motrin Overview
There are several varieties of Motrin, including Motrin IB, Motrin PM (which also contains a sleep aid), Children's Motrin, Children's Motrin Cold, Junior Strength Motrin and Infant's Motrin. All of these products contain ibuprofen, and are used to relieve pain in addition to any other stated benefits.[4]
Motrin is manufactured by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a division of Johnson and Johnson, which also makes Tylenol and numerous other common drug-store brand names. Johnson and Johnson was first formed in 1959.[5]

Motrin can cause stomach bleeding and ulcers and lead to liver damage over time[1]
People who take NSAIDs such as Motrin may have a heightened risk of having a heart attack or a stroke. These events can happen suddenly may cause death. The risk is greater for those taking NSAIDs over extended periods of time.[1]
In 2006, the FDA warned that the use of ibuprofen among those on an aspirin regimen for their hearts can interfere with aspirin's benefits for the heart.[6]
The makers of Motrin have issued several recalls of Motrin products throughout 2010 and 2011. Affected products include lots of Motrin IB, Junior Strength Motrin Caplets, Infant's Motrin and Children's Motrin. The most recent recall occurred in December of 2011, and involved roughly 12 million bottles of Motrin IB. There were no health concerns; the pills were recalled because they dissolved more quickly than expected on the shelves.
