Nexium Background

Nexium® is the trade name for esomeprazole, which works to decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach, aiding in the treatment of conditions resulting in too much acid in the stomach. These conditions include GERD, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, peptic ulcers, and gastritis. Nexium® is manufactured by AstraZeneca, and was approved by the FDA in 2001.[3]

Patients taking Nexium® should consult with their doctor about any other medications they may be taking. Serious side effects such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, peeling skin or blister, swelling of the face, tongue, throat, eyes, lips, hands, feet, or lower legs have been experienced. Patients having these symptoms should contact their doctor immediately.[1]
