About Niacin
Niacin is a type of B3 vitamin that is used to treat high cholesterol, as well as other conditions such as migraines, dizziness, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and more. It may also be consumed in an effort to pass a drug urinalysis. It is an essential nutrient, and the body uses it to keep cells healthy and to regulate sugar and fat. Amounts above those necessary for everyday function are turned into niacinamide, which is also used to benefit the body. Sometimes niacinamide is applied topically to treat certain kinds of acne and other skin conditions.[2]
It can be dangerous to consume too much niacin, as overdose can cause liver problems, high blood sugar and rash.[1]
Some people are deficient in niacin and require supplements in order to maintain healthy levels. Reasons for a deficiency might include a poor diet, alcoholism, or certain kinds of tumors.[2]
