Common Norvasc Side Effects
Common Norvasc side effects include headache, stomach pain, dizziness, drowsiness, flushing, and swelling of hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs. Patients taking this drug might also feel lightheaded or extremely tired. Serious Norvasc side effects include pounding heartbeats or fluttering in chest, passing out, or severe chest pain. Norvasc Allergic Reactions
Although the majority of Norvasc users will not have any allergic reactions, they may occur among patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in the drug. Some allergies are life-threatening, and may produce symptoms like swelling up of the throat, facial swelling, dizzy feelings, and itchy, rashy skin. In addition, patients who are prescribed simvastatin in addition to Norvasc are advised to not exceed doses of simvastatin that are over 20 mg.[1]
The active ingredient found in Norvasc is amlodipine. Amlodipine may cause an allergic reaction in some individuals. Norvasc also contains a number of inactive ingredients, such as microcrystalline cellulose, dibasic calcium phosphate anhydrous, sodium starch glycolate, and magnesium stearate, which may cause an allergic reaction in some individuals.[1]
Norvasc Precautions and Warnings
- Patients taking Norvasc who are also told to follow a low sodium or low salt diet are advised to carefully follow their physician's instructions.[3]
- Patients who increase their Norvasc dosage or begin taking the medication for the first time may experience a worsening of angina, especially in patients who have severe obstructive coronary artery disease.[1]
- Norvasc is not intended for pregnant females unless their medical conditions necessitate it.[1]
- Norvasc may not be recommended for patients who have histories of liver disease, aortic stenosis, or low blood pressure.[1]
