About Paxil
Paxil works by restoring the balance of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain, to assist in the improvement of specific mood disorders.[3] It may improve a patient's mood, sleep patterns, appetite, energy level, and restore interest in daily life. It may decrease anxiety or unreasonable fears, persistent and troubling thoughts, and panic attacks, as well as unwanted urges. Some improvement is usually experienced within 1 to 2 weeks after beginning Paxil. It may take several weeks before the full benefit is felt.
Dependence may develop on Paxil if it has been used regularly over an extended period of time, or in higher than normal dosages. In these cases, withdrawal symptoms may be experienced if the drug is stopped suddenly.[4]
