Prevacid (lansoprazole) is a medication that decreases the amount of acid in the stomach, and is used in the treatment and prevention of frequent heartburn, erosive esophagitis, intestinal ulcers, and other conditions with excessive stomach acid. Prevacid is available as a prescription, and is also sold over-the-counter (OTC) as Prevacid 24HR. Both formulas contain the same active ingredient.[1]

Side effects of Prevacid include abdominal pain, upset stomach, dizziness, headache, and issues with bowel movement. Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor, and drugs in this class have been known to cause higher risk of bone fractures, which can occur in the wrists, spine, or hips.[2]
