From Pharmacy Drug Guide
Pristiq is the brand name for desvenlafaxine, an antidepressant that is prescribed to patients who have been diagnosed with clinical depression.
Pfizer, Inc., the manufacturer of Pristiq, offers patient assistance programs that can help some patients to save money on their medication. Uninsured patients can save on Pristiq, regardless of income or age, through multiple plans.[1]
Those who do have insurance may also be able to save by using the Pristiq savings card, which allows patients to receive a discount of up to $15 on every prescription for a year. The card is not offered to those with public prescription insurance.[2]

Pristiq Information
Pristiq is an antidepressant that can effectively treat adult patients with major depressive disorder, also called clinical depression. Major depressive disorder is defined as depression lasting for more than two weeks that interferes with daily functioning and includes five of the following nine symptoms: sadness, guilt or feelings of worthlessness, lack of concentration, tiredness, abnormal sleep patterns, reduced interest in activities, psychomotor agitation or retardation, significant change in weight or desire to eat, and suicidal thoughts or actions.[4]
Pristiq belongs to a class of drugs called serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It works by blocking the reabsorption of two neurotransmitters in the brain: serotonin and norepinephrine.[4]
Pristiq Patient Assistance Programs
Pfizer Helpful Answers offers a group of assistance programs for patients who do not have insurance, or do not have sufficient insurance coverage to afford their Pfizer medications. Pfizer has recently expanded their Helpful Answers programs to include Wyeth medications.[5]
Three Helpful Answers programs cover Pristiq:[1]
- Connection to Care - a program designed to provide patients who do not have prescription coverage with free Pfizer medicines through their doctor’s office. To qualify, patients' household incomes must not exceed twice the national poverty level.
- Maintain – a program that allows patients who are unemployed and who qualify for hardship assistance to receive their Pfizer medications at home. Patients must typically be uninsured for this program.
- Pfizer Pfriends - a program that helps uninsured patients who cannot afford their prescription to save money at the pharmacy. There no income requirements, and eligible patients use the Pfizer Pfriends drug savings card for discounted Pristiq.
Patients requesting financial assistance through one of these programs are required to fill out an application, which can be obtained online or by calling the PAP customer service number: 866-706-2400. As Pristiq is a prescription medication, there is a Prescriber Section of the application that must be filled out by a doctor or healthcare provider.
In addition to the main Pfizer patient assistance programs, Pristiq has its own discount card. The Pristiq Savings Card is offered to non-Massachusetts residents who do not have publicly-funded drug coverage. Those with private insurance or no insurance at all qualify. The card provides a discount of up to $15 on each Pristiq prescription for a year, which can be applied to the copay or out-of-pocket cost.[2]
