Pulmicort Side Effects
From Pharmacy Drug Guide
Pulmicort Flexhaler is a brand name for budesonide, a corticosteroid that prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Pulmicort is typically taken via an oral inhaler. The drug is prescribed to prevent symptoms of asthma and other lung conditions, including wheezing, cough and constricted breathing. The benefits of Pulmicort appear gradually with continued use as the anti-inflammatory effects take place.
Pulmicort is not a bronchodilator and therefore cannot be effectively used when a patient is suffering an active asthma attack. Pulmicort has a number of common side effects including dry mouth, coughing, difficulty sleeping and dizziness. Those with bacterial, fungal or other types of infections may not be right for Pulmicort.[1]

- Patients who use oral corticosteroids and Pulmicort within the same time frame may experience serious side effects like drowsiness, breathing trouble or joint pain.[1]
- Pulmicort Flexhaler is not approved by the FDA for children under six years of age.[2]
- It is possible for patients to experience bronchospasm immediately following treatment with Pulmicort. In these instances, it is necessary to use a fast-acting inhaled bronchodilator immediately, and Pulmicort should no longer be used.[2]
