Seroquel Patient Assistance Programs
From Pharmacy Drug Guide
Seroquel contains the active ingredient quetiapine, and is prescribed to help manage schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression). It is classified as an antipsychotic, and is sometimes also used along with antidepressants to treat clinical depression.[1]
Patients who have difficulty paying for their Seroquel may benefit from a Seroquel patient assistance program. AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Seroquel, provides assistance to eligible patients in the form of free medication for up to a year through AZ&Me™ Prescription Savings Programs.[2] Additional savings may be available in the form of coupons and free samples. AstraZenica also has a program for health clinics, so that they may offer free Seroquel to needy patients.[3]

Seroquel Information
Seroquel is approved by the FDA for both children and adults, although it is typically only recommended for those over the age of 18 unless extenuating circumstances exist. It is not approved for elderly dementia patients, as it can lead to increased risk of death. Seroquel comes in its original tablet form, as well as in an extended-release tablet called Seroquel XR.[1]
About Patient Assistance Programs
Seroquel Patient Assistance Programs
The main patient assistance program available for Seroquel is the AZ&Me Prescription Savings Program. The program provides qualified patients with free medication for up to a year. Upon approval, a three-month supply of Seroquel will be sent to their home or to their healthcare provider. Patients can download an application from the official AstraZeneca website, or call 800-292-6363 to have an application faxed or sent by standard mail. Both patients and their doctor are required to fill out the application.[3]
AstraZenica provides two consumer programs for Seroquel: the AZ&Me Prescription Savings program for people without insurance, and AZ&Me Prescription Savings Program for people with Medicare Part D. They also offer the AZ&Me Prescription Savings program for healthcare facilities, which gives Seroquel to health clinics who then pass it on to low-income patients. Those who do not qualify for the consumer savings programs can look for participating clinics offering Seroquel via the AZ&Me website.[5]
Although the AstraZeneca Patient Assistant Program determines a patient's eligibility on a case-by-case basis, there are several key factors for eligibility. Patients should not have private prescription insurance coverage. Patients must have a Social Security number, Green Card, or Work Visa. Patients must also meet the following annual income requirements:[6]
- $30,000 or less for a single person
- $40,000 or less for a family of two
- $50,000 or less for a family of three
- $60,000 or less for a family of four
- $70,000 or less for a family of five
Medicare D participants may also be eligible if they spend at least 3% of their annual income on out-of-pocket prescription costs.[3]
Patients who have commercial health insurance policies and thus do not qualify for AstraZenica's patient assistance programs can get a free 30-day trial of Seroquel XR via the drug's official website. This offer is only available to those who are not currently taking Seroquel.[4]
