Symbicort® is a medication prescribed to patients over the age of 12 for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Asthma is a condition whereby the lungs are inflammed, making it harder to breathe when exposed to common asthma triggers such as pollen, smoke, and dust. COPD is a condition in which the lungs can't work properly due to blockage in the airways. This makes it difficult for patients to breathe and get necessary oxygen in their body. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are respiratory ailments that are associated with COPD.[1]

Symbicort® is available by prescription only. There are several savings options available for patients who have been prescribed Symbicort®, including occasional coupons and free samples. Also, AstraZeneca offers a patient assistance program, AZandME, to help aid in lowering prescription costs.[2]

AstraZeneca, the manufacturer of Symbicort®, offers a patient assistance program called AZandMe Prescription Savings program for patients who do not have insurance, who have faced financial challenges, or who receive their medications at participating health care facilities.[2] Patients with Medicare Part D may be eligible for financial assistance for their Symbicort® prescription through the AZandMe program for Medicare patients.[2]

Patients must fall under the following annual income parameters to qualify for assistance:

The phone number for uninsured or hardship patients is 800-424-3727.

Qualifying Medicare Part D patients must meet the same income requirements, and also spend more than three percent of their annual income on out-of-pocket prescription medicine expenses.[6] The phone number for Medicare Part D patients is 800-292-6363. Patients can apply online, by downloading the application, or over the phone.

Separate from their patient assistance programs, Symbicort® offers a printable coupon for a free month's worth of medication. This Symbicort® Savings Card is available through their website. To get the voucher, patients or their caregivers must fill out a registration form. After submitting the form, they will have the option to print the coupon instantly.
