Valium can be pricey for those without prescription drug coverage. However, Valium coupons can help patients save money on their Valium purchases. In addition, both Valium and its generic version, diazepam, may be available for free or at a reduced cost through patient assistance programs.

Valium is a sedative and a muscle relaxer, and is used to treat anxiety as well as other conditions. Valium is only available with a prescription from a doctor, and any drug coupons will require a prescription to redeem. Valium can be habit forming. Therefore, patients with a history of addiction or substance abuse are advised to discuss this with their physician before taking Valium.[1]

About Valium

Valium is a brand name for the generic drug diazepam. This drug is used to treat anxiety, alcohol withdrawal, muscle spasms and some types of seizures. This drug is classified as a benzodiazepine, which works by depressing the central nervous system and relaxing the muscles.[1]

Valium can magnify the effects of alcohol, and it may also cause side effects such as lightheadedness, clumsiness, changes in desire for food, changes in sexual desire, upset stomach or drowsiness. In some cases, unusual thoughts may develop, such as suicidal thoughts or feelings of confusion. However, it is recommended that patients speak with their doctor before stopping the use of Valium, as withdrawal symptoms may occur.[3]

Valium Patient Assistance Programs and Coupons

Coupons for brand-name Valium are rare. However, there are programs that offer the generic equivalent, diazepam, at a reduced cost. Diazepam is equal in effectiveness to the brand name product.

  • Rx Outreach Medications: This program, offered by Rx Outreach, sells diazepam in strengths of 2mg, 5mg, 10mg for less than typical retail pharmacies. In order to qualify forRx Outreach, patients and their households must earn no more than 300% of the national poverty level. Those with prescription drug coverage still qualify for the program.
  • Xubex Patient Assistance Program: This program allows eligible patients to order diazepam directly from the Xubex pharmacy at below retail value. There are few requirements for this program; patients must reside in the United States, but can earn any amount and may have prescription drug coverage for Valium.[4]
