Victoza (liraglutide) is a prescription medication used to manage type 2 diabetes. Victoza is not insulin, and is not for patients with type 1 diabetes or with diabetic ketoacidosis. Victoza is very similar to GLP-1, a hormone produced by the body to help regulate the release of insulin by the pancreas.[1] [2] [3] Patients may be able to use coupons, patient assistance programs or other health discount plans to help defray the cost of a Victoza prescription.

About Victoza

Paula Deen has endorsed Victoza, an injectable, non-insulin prescription medication for type 2 diabetes patients. Victoza works by helping the pancreas to produce insulin when blood sugar levels increase. Victoza may not be taken with insulin. While it can be taken in combination with other type 2 diabetes medications, taking Victoza with other medications may cause hypoglycemia.[1] [4] [2] [5]

Some of the more common side effects of Victoza include headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Nausea may decrease as the medication is taken over time. Other, more serious side effects are possible. [1] [2] [6] [3]
