About Vytorin®

Vytorin® is a brand name for a combination of two cholesterol lowering medications: ezetimibe (Zetia®), a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, and simvastatin (Zocor®), which is in a class of drugs called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, or statins. Vytorin® may be prescribed for those who cannot maintain proper cholesterol levels with diet exercise alone. It reduces bad cholesterol LDL that is absorbed during digestion along with reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the body.[4]

Common Vytorin® side effects include headache, pain in the muscles and loose or runny stool. Other side effects may occur as well, including erectile dysfunction, gallstones or gallbladder infection, coughing, fever, short breath, insomnia and memory issues. These side effects may be a result of the ezetimibe, the simvastatin, or the combination of both.[5]
