Zantac is a histamine-2 blocker that is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease (PUD). It works by inhibiting stomach acid production. It is also used in conjunctin with several antihistamines to treat hives and other allergy-related skin conditions. Zantac is available in both prescription and over the counter (OTC) formulas. The price of Zantac varies by retailer, but the OTC product averages about $18 for an 80-count bottle. When purchased over the counter, the cost of Zantac is not covered by insurance. Zantac coupons are available online from the official site, as well as from health care providers, pharmacists and print publications like the Sunday newspaper and local coupon mailers.

About Zantac

Zantac is used in the treatment and prevention of ulcers in the digestive tract.[5] It also treats conditions in which acid flows backward from the stomach into the esophagus, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as well as conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Primary side effects that may be experienced with regular use of Zantac are headache, dizziness, constipation or diarrhea. [6] Using Zantac may also increase the risk of pneumonia or bone fractures in older patients.[7]

A recall was issued for Zantac 75 tablets in May 2008 due to "exceeded impurities specification: (S-oxide)."[8] Zantac 300 mg prescription tablets were recalled in July 2009.[9]
